For a special treat, have a listen to A.J. Croce's "That's Me In the Bar". This is Jim's son. He sounds a bit like Joe Cocker, writes lyrics akin to Lyle Lovett and has more than a touch of his dad's gift of music!
My favorites range from "Big" with Tom Hanks, to "Hallowe'en" the first one...I'm not big on Horror movies but man'o'man does this one work on your psyche! I love a western, John Wayne, or Audie Murphy!!
I even like romance movies a little, my favorite? "The Goodbye Girl", with Richard Dreyfuss and Glenda Jackson. Natalie gets a kick out of my little "Dreyfuss Boogie" that I did at the Indy chatmeet...remember when he's walking down the hall towards her bedroom? Uh, yeah, you've got the idea!
I also like "factual" biographies, especially if they're about music or musicians. "Lady Sings the Blues"and "Leadbelly", with Roger E. Mosely, rank at the top.
"The Committments" is probably my favorite movie
about music. While not factual, I think it should be required
viewing for any musician or musician-to-be is. It's a story of a young
guy in Ireland that puts together "the hardest working band in the world".
Rent it!! You'll end up buying your own copy! The soundtrack is EXCELLENT,
filled with Wilson Pickett, James Brown and Aretha. You'll have to watch it
at least a couple of times to catch all of the dialect jokes, but believe
me, IT'S WORTH every second!!
Stephen King--What can I say about S.K. that hasn't already been written?
I also like delving into non-fiction music history books such as "The Rolling Stone History of Rock and Roll", and "Whatever Happened to....." books. Ya never know where Elvis will pop up!
At this point, I absolutely MUST thank
my lady, Natalie. She's something pretty special. No words will ever describe
how I feel about her. She's everything a man could ask for....and, on top
of that, she looks GREAT on my arm! She also makes ME look good by being
my coach, mentor and main kibitzer for my little corner of the web
.
